Responsibilities

Verizons Managed Security Services (MSS) business continues to grow very rapidly. Continually placed into the leaders quadrant of managed service providers by numerous market analyst firms, our business is only growing stronger as the demand from customers to offload the very complex task of security management continues to grow. Our MSS team provides:

  • Access to security knowledge, expertise and best practices to design, implement and maintain a secure IT infrastructure.
  • Monitoring and Management of security and related IT infrastructure.
  • Prevention, detection and reporting of security threats in a constantly changing landscape.

Verizon MSS helps customers control costs, improve risk insight, enhance decision making and drive fast remediation for day-to-day security. It assists in allocating the right resources against the most dangerous threats, and provides consistency in handling threats and policies across an organization.

As part of the MSS organization, the Lead Network Security Engineer will:

  • Provide technical and architectural support in the planning, designing, and implementing of security device solutions such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, web application firewalls, load balancers, encryption, VPNs/PKI/IPSEC etc.
  • Design and implement complex security environments based on business and technical requirements.
  • Research, develop and improve best practices to include changes in technology as it pertains to Verizon offerings.
  • Provide pre- and post-sales support to clients and internal teams to provide best of breed support.
  • Assist as subject matter expert and maintain appropriate certification for the assigned products as well as Industry certifications.

Other tasks may include:

  • Ability to manage projects, plans, team communications, consolidate vendor data and purchasing.
  • Develop and maintain assigned vendor product relations and participate in vendor strategy and lab interaction.
  • Work in conjunction with Product Management programs for product evaluation release cycles.
  • Work in conjunction with Development and IT, MSS Operations and Release Management to ensure the supported products achieve operational and service objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree preferred
  • 8+ years experience in a related discipline
  • Possess a broad range of network security engineering skills to effectively perform complex assignment
  • Demands familiarity with principles, theories, concepts and technologies surrounding firewalls, IDS/IPS, etc. as well as applied knowledge of established procedures, policies and practices.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more of the following areas: Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, ArcSight, Loglogic, McAfee, F5, Sourcefire, Tipping Point, Checkpoint etc.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux
  • Project Management Skills a plus

Additional Qualifications:

  • CISSP and IT certification(s) preferred
  • Expertise with security product vendors e.g. Cisco/Fortinet/ Palo Alto/Sourcefire/ Checkpoint.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communications skills. Experience in an Operations Center or System Administration a plus
