NIB Team Member Role: Assistant Controller - E-Commerce
As an Assistant Controller you will oversees accounting activities for NIB E-commerce and New York State PSP for People who are Blind (NYSPSP), including accounts receivable, cash receipts, accounts payable, cash disbursements, collections, and the month-end accounting close. Incumbent maintains the general ledger, prepares for the year-end audit, and prepares timely and accurate financial reports. Incumbent works closely with customers from operating departments and assists the Controller with special projects

Job Requirements

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Supervision and Training
  • Supervise E-commerce and NYSPSP A/P, A/R, and Collections functions
  • Supervise general ledger maintenance and reconciliation
  • Review monthly schedules and journal entries
  • Prepare and review bank reconciliations
  • Prepare and review audit schedules

Accounting Processing
  • Monitor E-commerce and NYSPSP automated shipping notifications (856s)
  • Review and reconcile E-commerce and NYSPSP A/R and A/P invoicing (810s)
  • Review and reconcile E-commerce and NYSPSP payments processing and application
  • Manage the resolution of Shipping, A/R, A/P, and Payment exceptions in a timely manner
  • Supervise billings to and payments from GSA
  • Monitor and reconcile credit card payments and general ledger accounts
  • Review disbursement checks and ACH transactions
  • Prepare and review E-commerce and NYSPSP account reconciliations
  • Manage unusual/exception transactions
Month-End Close
  • Prepare and review E-commerce and NYSPSP account reconciliations
  • Work in coordination with the Controller to meet month-end close deadlines
  • File state sales tax forms

Reporting
  • Prepare/review ad hoc reports related to E-commerce and NYSPSP
  • Validate Oracle Business Intelligence reports
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Respond to ad hoc reporting requests

Issues Resolution
  • Answer escalated internal NIB requests
  • Resolve escalated A/P and A/R issues in E-commerce and NYSPSP


Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting from an accredited university or college; CPA preferred
  • Minimum 8 years public, private, or non-profit accounting experience; inclusive of 3 years supervisory experience with one or more direct reports and 2 years financial reporting responsibility (financial statement preparation).

  • Expertise with accounting software
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills including Access


Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly supervises A/R Specialist and two A/P Specialists; provides technical accounting guidance to two Accounting Specialists working for NYSPSP.


Travel
  • Less than 5%
