Senior Marketing Communications Specialist

This position requires a person who is highly creative and tactical but also analytical and strategic. The senior marketing communications specialist will provide leadership and project management oversight in the development and implementation of marketing communication plans and strategies that advance the growth objectives of specific programs or LMI-wide initiatives.


The individual will perform analysis of markets, competitors, customers, and promotion tactics using both internal and external data sources to inform the development of marketing messages and approaches. This person will develop marketing communications plans that integrate the appropriate promotion strategies and tools drawing on internal creative resources and external vendors for execution.


The senior marketing communications specialist will craft messages and produce materials to communicate with a market about a product, service, or idea. The position employs a variety of public relations, advertising, branding, direct marketing, sales, event planning, and online marketing tactics to implement integrated strategies that create an impression, raise awareness, and fashion a preference for LMI by the select audience.


As a member of the corporate communications team, the specialist works closely with department members and other LMI staff in advancing LMI’s marketing and business development objectives. This position requires a collaborative work style and a positive, pro-active customer service approach.


Core Responsibilities

  • Conducts data retrieval activities, such as identifying relevant past performance examples, to use to illustrate our program capabilities.
  • Analyzes internal and external data sources such as customer satisfaction surveys and market research to inform messaging and communication approaches.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis for LMI programs to help answer questions, determine trends, and provide insights for strategy development.
  • Develops and executes marketing communications plans to targeted markets to ensure consistent messaging. This includes development from initial planning, conceptualization and message crafting to production of collateral material, such as publications, web content and emails, and videos.
  • Works closely with LMI project teams and provides marketing communications direction and support.
  • Creates and maintains LMI-wide contact lists using internal and external sources for outbound electronic messaging to support communication efforts.

Job Requirements


  • Candidate must have the skill set necessary to manage strategic planning, creative development and production of communications vehicles for existing and prospective customers.
  • Because this position works across program groups, the individual must have an eye toward trend-spotting and be able to translate them into communications products.
  • Candidate should have strong database knowledge and the ability to translate market research data into improved communications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing communications strategies and tactics is required. An understanding of electronic and online tactics is desired.

Experience Requirements

  • Candidates should have seven to 10 years’ experience in the planning, development and execution of integrated marketing communications programs.
  • The individual needs to have comfort with working with C-level leadership and managing a range of corporate relationships.
  • Strong project management skills and superior verbal, written and presentation skills are required.
  • Prior experience in the federal consulting government space and with technical services is strongly desired.

Educational Requirements

A masters degree in business administration with an emphasis on marketing is desirable although a bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, advertising, or public relations with the relevant experience is acceptable.
