Alstom Power in Richmond, VA is hiring a Controls System Engineer for its Power, Automation and Controls (PAC) business.


Controls Engineering consists of the development, introduction and application of controls such as electro-mechanical or electric controls to support Company products. It requires knowledge of various related engineering disciplines and their applications.

Operational Responsibilities:

Control System Engineer shall have and demonstrate skills in gathering, design, configuration, integration and implementation of process control solutions including batch software, PLC/DCS systems, HMI packages, SCADA systems, PC networking technology. Position requires knowledge of a specific engineering discipline including but not limited to process manufacturing, detailed design generation, implementation, system integration, testing, documentation and on-site commissioning. Daily responsibilities include solutions implementation and support of the project team objectives. This position may receive technical direction from a lead engineer and/or engineering manager. This position demands a team player approach to project execution. Plans and coordinates technical design and engineering implementation of project work.

Functional responsibilities:

Experience with design and installation of distributed control systems, programmable controllers, vibration monitoring systems, compressor anti-surge controls, and control systems;

Design and implementation of control systems and strategies for steam/gas turbine control, plant control systems;

Provides hands-on support to establish test environment for customer and factory acceptance tests;

Provides professional technical assistance to customer, contractor and /or Alstom Power personnel during deployment of control systems in the field;

Promote Alstom products in front of customers during presentations and other events as needed;

Through professional appearance and excellent service, generates new business opportunities for Alstom Power products and technology;

Liaise with Alstom units overseas to ensure uniform product structures where needed;

Continually improves personal technical, commercial, and organizational knowledge and skills;

Commissioning / Service assignments in the field (20-30% of time, annually).

Job Requirements

Educational Requirements

BS Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Technology Engineering

Experience, Knowledge and Abilities

2-5 years of experience in control systems engineering;

Required Qualifications
PLC/DCS programming experience required

Instrumentation & Control experience required
Operational effectiveness & Accountability

Ability to make decisions/Sense of urgency

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in proposal development is desirable

Second language (Spanish) preferred, but not required

Managing, budgeting, scheduling projects experience desirable

Ability to pass a pre-hire background check, drug screening and physical exam required
Ability to work in the US without any further action from an employer required
