This position is located at the Medical Home Port Team One, Branch Health Clinics/ Boone, Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA.

 

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of medical and Clinical Support duties which facilitate the work of physicians and professional nurses.

The incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:

·  Providing nursing care to both uncomplicated/complicated medical patients w/ multiple existing co-morbidities and potentially acute/ emergent illness/injuries.

·  Utilizing ambulatory care assessments skills to triage patients into the clinic according to the prescribed clinic policies and guidelines.

·  Utilizing multiple computer systems, scheduling clinic appointments and patient data entries

·  Operating and monitoring the performance of ambulatory care equipment used in the care of a variety of patients.

·  Assisting the health care provider in the performance of diagnostic examinations and equipment set up: i.e. Intrauterine Device placement/removal, pap smear exams, cervix checks, vasectomies, etc.

·  Preparing, administering and recording immunizations, allergy sera treatments, etc.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

·  Experience providing care to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients placed within their assignment

·  Experience providing triage and assessments of patients needs in order to set priorities, plan and provide nursing care

·  Experience identifying abnormal or acute situations in order to notify the clinic nurse or provider

·  Experience utilizing knowledge of pharmacology and the body’s physiological response to pharmaceutical agents in order to recognize adverse effects

·  Experience operating and monitoring the performance of ambulatory care equipment used in the care of post procedural and acute patients.

·  Experience assessing patients in order to set priorities

·  Experience gathering and relaying information to the health care provider concerning patients who are present with problems or call in for an appointment

·  Experience utilizing a body of standardized nursing principles, procedures, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of providing nursing care to assigned patients.

Incumbent must have and maintain a Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).

REQUIREMENTS:

Generally, current Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade.  All qualifications and time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.

 

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.

 

Incumbent must be a licensed practical nurse with current state license who demonstrates competencies in nurse practice and utilization of the nursing process, as demonstrated by successful completion of an orientation, skills inventory and required certification within 90 days.

This position includes a work week of five days, 40 hours per week and may include rotating shifts, weekends and holidays

 

Incumbent must have and maintain certifications in Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)

 

This position is noncritical/ sensitive and requires incumbent of this position to be able to obtain and maintain a confidential clearance.
