Technical Writer at Ashburn

Data Center Global Services (DCGS) is looking for technical writer to help develop process and procedure documentation to support data center construction and operations.

DCGS is responsible for building and maintaining the electrical plants, cooling plants and physical spaces that support Amazons servers. The technical writing team plays a vital role in getting data centers up and running quickly by making sure the methods and procedures that engineers and technicians follow are clearly described and easy to follow.

Major Responsibilities:
* Support peer technical writers in using DITA to develop core documents
* Work with documentation management systems and help oversee the lifecycle of documents
* Work with samples, examples, and graphics to support documentation
* Develop and deliver operations, process, and procedure documentation for engineers, electricians, and mechanics

Required Skills and Experience:
* Ability to write clearly and grammatically
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
* 2 or more years experience developing and delivering documents with DITA
* Experience modifying DITA output using XSL
* Ability to stay on target and on track under normal circumstances, and to expedite efforts when required
* Proficiency with industry standard technical writing tools
* Proven success producing engineering-oriented documentation
* Experience interviewing experts, such as mechanics, electricians, or engineers, to elicit essential content

Basic Qualifications

* A technical background that enables easy interaction with engineers
* A demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality technical documents
* Demonstrated ability to ramp up on new concepts and methods quickly
* Demonstrated ability to follow established document designs and standards independently
* A strong understanding of the techniques and advantages of single-sourcing documentation using XML
* Bachelor degree or technical Writing certificate and three years technical writing experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

* Previous experience working with data or networking center documentation highly desirable
* Previous experience writing procedures for people working in dangerous environments highly desirable
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to contribute to the effectiveness of the work environment
* A proactive and open-minded attitude to resolving problems and delivering the right results
