Admissions Counselor/ Academic Advisor

OFFICE OF STUDENT ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR/ academic advisor Richard Bland College is the Junior College of the Commonwealth of Virginia and a branch campus of The College of William and Mary. The College offers a traditional curriculum in the liberal arts leading to the Associate Degree. For additional information, refer to: www.rbc.edu BROAD FUNCTION: The Admissions Counselor/Academic Advisor reports to the Director of Enrollment Management and serves as a member of the Enrollment Management team, participating with other members in the recruitment, decision making, admission and academic advising of potential and admitted students to the College. The Admissions Counselor/Academic Advisor will also serve as member of the One-Stop Center team. Functions included in the center are admitting, testing, academic planning and counseling, registration, records and certification, and student finance. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Travel to high schools and other venues for the purposes of recruiting students. Participate in the annual state wide Virginia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (VACRAO) College Tour. Foster interaction with high school guidance counselors both locally and in other targeted geographic areas. Conduct information sessions about Richard Bland College both locally and in other targeted geographic areas. Contact potential students to answer questions and encourage their consideration of Richard Bland College. Conduct admissions interviews for prospective students, conduct campus tours and assist with campus recruiting events such as Open Houses, counselor luncheons, etc. Review applications for and make recommendations on admission decisions. Serve as an academic advisor for students enrolled in Richard Bland College (both new admits and returning students) as they matriculate and move toward defining subject area preferences and graduation. Work in the student focused One Stop Center providing general info on all areas that encompass student enrollment management. Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in education, counseling, administration or a related field required. Experience in recruitment, public speaking, small group presentations and interviewing applicants for admission. Applicant must have excellent communication skills, and the ability to interpret transcripts, understand college requirements, and curriculum guidelines. Must be able to advise students appropriately as they move from matriculation to graduation. Must be able to multi-task in a student focused information center; and Must demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, & the ability to learn the internal administrative and student database systems. This is a full-time administrative position with a hiring range of $32,000 - $37,000.
